Thor was the son of
Thor was the thunder god.
He ruled the storms.
Thor rode above the clouds in a chariot pulled by two goats.
The names of the two goats were Tooth-grinder and Tooth-gnashed.

Whenever Thor rode in his chariot people could hear the noise from the wheels and saw the strong sparks the wheels sent out as they speed across the sky.
Others said the mighty sparks (the lightning) came from his hammer.
The humans called this thunder and lightning.
The Oak Tree was sacred to Thor,

the god of thunder.
Thor has given his name to Thursday.
Thor was married to Sif
He was married to Sif. She had a son named Ull, father unknown.
Rumors were that Sif had a secret lover. Thor adopted Ull as his stepson.
Sif - the goddess with the beautiful golden hair
Sif was well known for her lovely hair made from gold.
Loki had cut off Sif’s hair as a prank when she was asleep.
When Thor discovered what had happened, he was furious.
Thor made Loki promise to get the dwarfs to make new hair for his wife.
Loki kept his promise and went to the dwarfs.
The dwarfs created gorgeous new hair made from gold.
When the golden hair was fastened to her head, it grew naturally like real hair.
The children of Thor
Thor lived at Thrudvang. The name means “field of strength”.
It was an enormous house with 540 rooms.
Thor and Sif had a daughter named Thrud (meaning strength) and a son named Modi (meaning brave).
Thor also had a son named Magni (meaning strong).
A Jotun woman named Jarnsaxa was the mother of Magni.
Jarnsaxa was Thor’s mistress.
Mjolnir - the hammer
T
hor owned a hammer named Mjolnir.
Loki disturbed the dwarfs when they were busy making the magical hammer, which is why the hammer had such a short handle.
Mjolnir could hit any target. After the target was hit, the hammer returned to Thor’s right hand all by itself.
He had a pair of iron gauntlets which allowed him to brandish the hammer.
Thor was constantly fighting the Jotuns, the giants. Thor had a magical belt in his possession. It certainly came in handy when he was fighting with the giants.
Whenever Thor put on this particular belt, he became twice as strong.
The final battle - Thor fought the Midgard Serpent at Ragnarok
During Ragnarok, the doom of the gods, Thor had his last and most difficult battle. Eventually Thor managed to kill the monstrous serpent.
He fought the Midgard Serpent, named Jormungand.

He started to walk away.
Thor took only nine steps before he fell dead to the ground.
The poison from the serpent killed him.
His sons Magni and Modi survived Ragnarok and they inherited Mjolnir, the magic hammer.
Thor’s Hammer Gets Stolen
One awful day, Thor discovered Mjolnir (his hammer) had been stolen by Trym, a Jotun. Trym had hidden the hammer eight stops under the ground.
Thor was enraged.
Trym stated he would return the hammer, if he could have the goddess Freyja for his bride.
Freyja absolutely refused. She was extremely upset with Thor for even considering the proposal. There was no way Freyja was going to marry Trym.
The gods of Asgard discussed this serious matter. Heimdall suggested a plan B. Thor could disguise himself as Freyja, go to Trym and get Mjolnir back during the wedding ceremony.
Now it was Thor’s turn to be mad.
Thor considered himself to be a macho man and this proposition was beneath his dignity.
After Thor had calmed down, he agreed to the plan.
Thor was dressed up as a woman.
He borrowed the exquisite necklace named Brisingamen belonging to Freyja.
Loki dressed up as a bridesmaid.
During a frightful thunderstorm Thor and Loki arrived in Jotunheim and the home of Trym.
Trym was naturally overjoyed to see his bride “Freyja”.
He immediately invited his soon to be bride to a banquet in her honor.
Thor ate an ox, eight salmon and drank three barrels of mead.
Trym was astonished and asked how a woman could devour such huge quantities of food. Loki, disguised as the bridesmaid, replied that the bride had not eaten for eight days.
Trym then tried to lift the veil with the intention of kissing his bride. He back away as he caught a glimpse of the fierce eyes.
Trym did not understand how the most beautiful goddess of Asgard could have such frightening eyes.
Loki was quick to reply that the bride had not slept for eight days.
Trym accepted the explanations. He was now very eager to continue on with the wedding ceremony. Mjolnir was placed on the lap of the “bride”.
Trym was now ready for the wedding vows.
As soon as Mjolnir was safely placed on his lap, Thor stood up with the hammer in his hand.
Thor Goes Fishing Thor had many adventures and one of them involved a fishing trip with the Jotun named Hymir. Thor had disguised himself as a young lad. When Thor asked Hymir about getting bait, Hymir got cranky. He told Thor to get his own fishing bait. Hymir and Thor started to row out to sea. Every time Hymir wanted to stop, Thor insisted they row even further from land. The catch was enormous. It was none other than the Midgard Serpent who had taken the bait. Hymir was now scared out of his wits. He gapped his knife and cut Thor’s fishing line off. Thor and Sif had a daughter named Thrud. She was sweet and strong. Alvis was one of the dark dwarfs. Thor was not about to permit his lovely daughter to marry a dwarf. Thor said he would only willing let his daughter go if Alvis could prove he would be a worthy husband. Thor spent all night discussing with the dwarf. Thor asked thirteen questions. All the questions were related to the nine worlds and the cosmic order. Alvis was so busy trying to convince Thor how smart he was that he totally forgot about the time. As the first rays of the sun lightened the sky, Alvis got into a panic. As Thor looked at the rock which only minutes earlier had been the dwarf Alvis, he smiled. His darling daughter was safe.
Minutes later he had killed the giant Trym and all his family.
He asked Hymir if he could accompany him on his fishing trip. Hymir was not exactly overjoyed, but agreed to let him tag along.
He warned Thor that he could get scared in the boat at sea. Thor still insisted on coming.
Thor went out Hymir’s pasture. He grabbed a huge black ox and quickly killed the ox. He snaps off the head of the ox. Thor took the head to use as bait.
Finally Thor was satisfied and started fishing using the ox head as bait. Almost immediately Thor felt a mighty force pulling fiercely on his
fishing line. Thor used all his strength and started to haul in the line.
By this time Hymir was terrified.
The Midgard Serpent was the most dreaded creature to any fisherman.
Thor kept pulling, the serpent roared and waters of the ocean foamed.
Thor was by now back to being the thunder god and had grown in size and strength.
The Midgard Serpent sank back into the ocean very much alive. Thor smacked Hymir hard for what he had done. Hymir fell overboard. Thor himself waded ashore.
Thor stopped his daughter from getting married
The dwarf named Alvis longed to have her for his wife. A hasty agreement had been made with the gods without thinking about the consequences.
The dwarfs were master craftsmen. In return for some of his work, Alvis was promised Thrud for his wife.
Alvis was in love with Thrud. Thrud was all he wanted in return for the weapons he had made for the gods.
He made a pretty bracelet and placed it on her arm as a token of his love.
Alvis knew his rights and demanded to have Thrud for his wife.
He had kept his end of the deal and insisted that Thor also honored the promise.
Alvis boasted that even though he was little, he was quite smart and could answer any question. Thor requested that Alvis should convince him of the matter.
Alvis answered all the questions enthusiastically. He was very keen to prove his point and finally marry Thrud.
It was too late. The sunrays fell brightly on Alvis. That was the end of the dwarf. Alvis could not be exposed to sunlight. He turned into a stone.
